NC History Bowl/Bee State Championship

posted Mar 21, 2017, 6:27 AM by Ashley McBride

On Saturday, March 18th East hosted the NC History Bowl/Bee State Championship.  We had two teams competing in the Bowl, both of whom qualified for the national tournament in Washington, DC.  The team comprised of Max Hazerjian, Alex Dixon, William Ke, Nick Parker, and Vincent Du, went undefeated on their road to winning the state title.

Likewise, East participants swept the medal round of the varsity NC History Bee, with Alex Dixon taking 1st place, Thomas Brody earning 2nd place, and Sam Pritchard coming in 3rd.

In the six years that East has fielded a team and hosted the tournament, we have had at least one team qualify for nationals every year and this is our fifth state title.
East would like to congratulate each of the individuals above as well Helen Jiang, Kees Benkendorfer, and Sophia Janken who played on the other qualifying bowl.

The East Chapel Hill High School CONCERT CHOIR (our "Beginning" chorus) earned a "Superior" rating at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem from their three adjudicators at the state MPA Choral Festival (MPA = Music Performance Assessment). East is very proud of their accomplishment!  The Concert Choir has a long-standing history of earning "Superior" ratings at the state Choral Festival but has not participated in recent years (since 2011). They also did a great job sight-reading in front of their sight-reading judge!
